SoGo Solar-Powered Backpack
The SoGo Solar-Powered Backpack was designed by a team of 12 people including myself at Shad Valley. The challenge was to make an invention that is energy-efficient and useful. The SoGo is a backpack (prototyped as a shoulder bag) with electrical capabilities, powered by a high-efficiency solar array. The backpack could power a variety of portable devices such as cell phones and mp3 players. The SoGo features a rechargeable battery pack, so that it could also be used in the dark, drawing unused power generated while it was in a well-lit environment. The device was highly regarded at the Shad Valley program and won the distinction of the adjudicator's award.
