Design of Technical Systems, Applications, and Services
The SmartShelf is an integrated digital shelving system for grocery stores that displays product information, enables realtime price changes, and automates the inventory process. The SmartShelf uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) for product detection and has a length-wise digital display to show product pricing where traditional price tags are placed. The shelf has built-in antennae precisely spaced along its length, and product location is detected algorithmically based on binary sensing of products by each antenna. A central computer system identifies product clusters and communicates pricing information back to the shelf for display to the customer.
